In the world of business and industry, training and workshops plays very important role to nurture the skill set and knowledge. People always get confused between training and workshops. Although these two terms are similar in nature, there are a number of differences between these two.
A workshop refers to a seminar, discussion group, or the like, that is used to exchange the ideas, demonstration about any particular subject. It emphasizes problem-solving, hands-on training, and requires the involvement of the participants. Training is defined as a skill building program that relate to specific knowledge area, competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one’s capability, capacity, performance and productivity. “Workshop” is a subset of “training methods “; along with this method, lecture, and seminar, tutorial, simulation etc is other methods of training.
Workshops provide a significant improvement in the baseline of specific company by creating the awareness about competitors and raising the motivation of company employees. Workshops are nothing but a meeting or session at which group of people are engaged in discussion on a particular topic. Depending upon the topic and organizational structures some workshops involve specific registration fee, others might be free.
Workshop structure is flexible but with finite numbers of seat; while trainings are predefined with finite number of seats. The duration of workshop ranges from typical 2/3 hours to whole day while 2/3 days is the most common length of a training class. In case of workshop, more dedicated level of interaction with Q&A is encouraged all times instead in training class a maximum focus is to ensure the students are grasping and digesting the material and knowledge.
In a workshop sharing of specialized material with participants is very rare, on the other hand each student gets own set of training material (CD’s DVD’s printouts, books, etc) in a training class.
Trainings can greatly increase the productivity of a company’s employees because training can teach employees new skills in order to improve their performance and to take different more roles within organization. Training helps them to accomplish routine task more effectively. It also has effect of improving the job satisfaction among the employees of the company. When any business owners invest time and money in developing the skills of their personal, employees tend to feel more valued and appreciated which ultimately decreases the chances of employee leaving the organization.
